About the role
As Internal Communications Manager, you will lead the British Museum’s internal communications activity, ensuring colleagues are informed, aligned and connected to the Museum’s priorities, programmes and strategic direction. Working closely with the Communications and Colleague Engagement teams, you will develop and deliver a proactive internal communications strategy that supports organisational change and strengthens understanding of the Museum’s work.
This is a newly created role with a significant opportunity to shape and establish internal communications across the Museum. You will play a critical role in supporting colleagues through a period of transformation, including the Masterplan and corporate strategy, while improving communications channels, governance and leadership engagement across a workforce of around 2,500 colleagues.
About you
We are looking for someone who brings significant experience, sound judgement and credibility from day one, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders and influence at all levels of the organisation. You are highly self-motivated, organised and resilient, with excellent writing, editing and content creation skills. You have experience supporting organisational change, managing communications channels and delivering leadership communications.
Key areas of responsibility
Develop and deliver a Museum-wide internal communications strategy and annual communications plan that supports organisational priorities and change programmes.
Lead the creation and delivery of high-quality communications content across channels including leadership communications, intranet content, colleague briefings and all colleague emails.
Manage and improve the Museum’s intranet and digital communications channels, establishing governance processes and using insight and performance data to drive continuous improvement.
Partner with senior leaders and managers to strengthen leadership visibility, develop communications toolkits and support effective management communications.
Lead communications planning and delivery for major organisational initiatives, helping colleagues understand and engage with strategic change programmes.
The Masterplan
The British Museum is undertaking its biggest transformation since its founding nearly 300 years ago. This physical and intellectual transformation includes large-scale building and gallery transformation, new ways of connecting with audiences and different ways of working. As we look towards this exciting future, we remain guided by the words of our founder Hans Sloane, who dreamed of a museum connecting all arts and sciences, which would be accessible to everyone, everywhere.
