Watering Words Workshop

For whom?

Anyone interested in site specific practices, movement, poetry and environmental humanities.

When?
The workshop takes place from 11th to 15th September 2023 (Monday-Friday).*

*The workshop is a part of Land Art Moving Biennial with events happening on the weekends 8th-10th and 15th-17th September, therefore participants are welcome to stay in Águeda from 8th to 17th September, if they are willing to.

Where?
The workshop takes place in Agit Lab (https://agitlab.wordpress.com) in Águeda, Portugal.
The participants will be accommodated in the Alta Vila.
All participants will have provided 3 meals per day (vegetarian or vegan) from 11th to 15th September.

Description
The workshop Watering Words is oriented towards direct exchange with the local environment of Águeda and the local water bodies, such as the Pateira Fermentelos lake and the river Águeda. During the 5 days of common sessions we will undertake various activities:
1) Shared practice on site – structured as a collective exploration of certain areas of Águeda, through which we can evaluate their specific conditions and characteristics, and engage with the site either through physical practice, reading and discussing prepared texts as well as writing or drawing together. In this way we can establish a dialogue between each other and our surroundings and also contribute to the poetic mapping of the territory.
2) Shared practice in the studio - after the direct exchange with the natural environment, we will come back to the studio to develop the materials that originated from the site specific sessions in the landscape.
3) Installation of collective artworks – implemented with the materials collected / created during the workshop. These artworks can take the form of written poems, drawings, natural objects found on site, sound recordings, etc.
4) Final site-specific performance – set in the landscape, the informal performance will be a way to share the outcomes of our process with the audience. The final presentation of the workshop will be included in the Land Art Moving Biennial program.

The workshop will be documented through film and photography. The documentation will be a part of Land Art Moving Biennial video screenings on the weekend 16th-17th September. Afterwards, the video will be published online and available for the participants.

The workshop will be held in English.

*The schedule may differ slightly each day depending if we go to work on site or stay in the studio.

Costs
Early bird (until the end of June): 420 EUR
Regular price: 570 EUR
For regular participants of online sessions Watering Words. Encounters: 250 EUR
For local participants from Águeda (no accommodation & no meals included): 200 EUR
For local participants from Águeda (no accommodation but meals included): 300 EUR
If you would like to participate but the only thing that stops you is price, please reach out to us and we will surely find a solution.
(After confirmation of participation there are 7 days to pay the advance of 150 EUR to book the place).
