In an era where global challenges such as climate change, social inequality, and the erosion of democratic values are intensifying, the need for innovative perspectives and interdisciplinary collaboration has never been more critical. The upcoming performance-conference "Uncommon Matter," scheduled for February 28, 2025, at Culturgest in Lisbon, seeks to address these pressing issues by exploring new forms of coexistence and community.
This event brings together a distinguished panel of thinkers and creators:
Andreas Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos: An artist, writer, and professor of law and theory at the University of Westminster, Andreas is the founder of The Westminster Law & Theory Lab. His work delves into the intersections of law, philosophy, and art, challenging traditional perceptions and advocating for innovative approaches to societal issues.
Angelika Hinterbrandner: A professor at ETH Zurich, Angelika's research focuses on housing policy and the implications of the climate crisis on the built environment. Her work critically examines the political and legislative frameworks that influence urban development and sustainability.
Sepideh Karami: An architect, writer, and professor at the University of Edinburgh, Sepideh operates at the intersection of architecture, performing arts, literature, and geology. Her interdisciplinary approach emphasizes decolonization and challenges conventional narratives within architectural practice.
Marta Rema: A writer, curator, and the editorial coordinator of Electra magazine, Marta has developed and directed various cultural programs and performances. With a background in philosophy and curatorial studies, her work explores systems of resistance and the nuances of human experience.
Lucinda Correia: An architect and researcher, Lucinda is the founder of efabula and has co-founded initiatives like Artéria—Humanizing Architecture. Her projects often focus on urban rehabilitation and the humanization of architectural spaces, reflecting a deep commitment to social engagement through design.
Together, these experts will engage in a dialogue that transcends disciplinary boundaries, aiming to imagine responsible practices that foster new meanings of coexistence, cohabitation, and community. Their collective insights promise to offer a profound exploration of how we might navigate and respond to the complex challenges of our time.
Join us as we delve into their perspectives, seeking to uncover the innovative ideas and collaborative efforts that "Uncommon Matter" aspires to inspire.
